NMSU Mission Statement

AHWC Mission and Values
New Mexico State University promotes a culture of wellness of body, mind, and spirit through the promotion of healthy behaviors and lifestyle choices provided by education, outreach, programming and comprehensive medical services.
We participate in open communication, sharing of truthful information in a timely, articulate manner to all who are affected by the events of decisions. This includes transparency (as permitted by circumstance).
We value working together toward shared goals with our clients/patients/patrons, other AHWC staff, as well as with other departments on campus and the larger Las Cruces Community. We mutually respect the differences in our professions and use those differences to better serve our clients/patients/patrons in a holistic fashion and to learn from one another.
We value the expression of genuine care and concern for the unique and diverse struggles, opinions, & identities of students, faculty, and staff.
Diversity and Inclusion
We value a vibrant and multicultural NMSU community, including students, faculty, and staff representing multiple identities, backgrounds, and worldviews. We purposively work towards the inclusion of others when they are different than ourselves. We continually work towards multi-cultural competence with humility and openness.
We encourage the process by which our students gain a sense of mastery and efficacy over their own lives which helps them to grow, learn and increases self-worth and self-esteem.
We conduct ourselves according to the highest standards of our respective professions and vocations. This begins with our professional codes of ethics, extending to include standards of attire, timeliness, and reliability. This also includes having respect for organizational structure, following the chain of command and adherence to assigned roles and responsibilities.
We embrace change and continually seek ways to provide quality, cost-effective services that meet or exceed our customer’s expectations.
We value an atmosphere of trust and fairness and hold the highest regard for the worth and rights of others and promote honest and forthright interpersonal communication and behaviors.
We value serving as advocates for those clients/patients/patrons that are from underserved communities or marginalized groups and we do this with multi-cultural humility.
We value team accomplishments through collaborative efforts and support the professionals who share responsibility for the care and services given. We promote a work culture of “always willing to lend a hand” especially when it comes to meeting the needs of our students.
AHWC Counseling Services Mission:
To further accomplish the stated Vision, Mission, and Core Values, AHWC’s Counseling aims to assist all students in developing to their fullest potential their academic, social, and emotional/interpersonal selves. Academic success is dependent upon emotional well-being, belief in self, and an ability to successfully interact with the interpersonal world that surrounds us. Thus, AHWC Counseling assists students by providing them with opportunities for self-exploration and growth, by offering needed support in times of crisis.
